Daphne Guinness: Contra Mundum

“Part of being a conscious human being, is having an intention. And if you put an intention into whatever you do, it’s definitely going to be more satisfying in the end.”

She showcased her 1.76 million platinum and diamond glove named Contra Mundum at a private party hosted by Jay Jopling. The one of a kind piece of jewelry she made with the jeweller Shaun Leane is made of hand crafted chain-mail and 5000 pave diamonds arranged in bird formation. The glove is moulded to fit Daphne’s own hand. Read the full story here.

“As I got older and went out into the world I realized it isn’t a very friendly place to be, and I thought, ‘We need armor.’” She continues on to say: “When you see a suit of armor and then a portrait of the person who wore it, you’ll see that the person was sort of tiny and a little feeble, so they put on this great big suit of armor to look a little more frightening.”

I've watched this video for more than five times. Every single time I hear her voice in the narration, my heart skipped a beat. “Daphne is someone to take pleasure in, and in many ways, someone who incites moments of wonder,” says Stasiewicz.
