NYFW: Prabal Gurung Spring 2012

The most notable collection to date is Prabal Gurung. I’m not entirely sure if I like this collection or not. I am intrigued though. Graphic prints, sheer, cutouts, floral, Rorschach-like print dresses in purple, white and black. Beautiful.

Dresses were embellished with bondage accents, providing contrast to the airy, ethereal shapes. The makeup features ombre matte fuchsia lip, which I think is very modern—and powerful. Will you try this look?

I still feel some sportswear incorporated in the shapes but then he added some sort of feminine elegance to it. Yes we can see the multitude of references (hints of Givenchy couture silhouettes, Rodarte detailing etc), but overall I think it's pretty innovative. Oops, here are some looks that are overdone and simply awkward.

Favorite silhouette so far. The shiny floral prints suit. So daring.

Shoes are by Nicholas Kirkwood. Take a look at some backstage candids by Zana Bayne here. And what a coincidence, Sarah Jessica Parker is currently obsessed with Prabal. What's your favorite look?

  1. I agree with you! I'm not sure about some of the dress designs. Although the first dress has a gorgeous print!

  3. Oh my goodness this collection is to die for! What I would give to be sitting front row taking those photos. Loving SJP's Red and Pink combo.. my favourite colours to colour block.

You have a great blog. I'd love it if we could follow each other?

  6. I love the red-pink combo too, plus she can totally pull off the very tricky white shoe trend up until now.
