3x1 Bespoke denim, New York style

 photo 3x1-New-York-City-5_zpsfefe5ed3.jpg

3×1 is a denim label based in NYC that offers bespoke jeans. With experience at fashion houses like Earnest Sewn, Scott Morrison, the guy behind the label certainly speak the denim language.

Morrison could have gone the easy route and had his latest line mass produced in a factory somewhere overseas. Instead, he decided that 3×1 jeans would be manufactured in New York City – in small quantities – from the best fabrics (from multiple mills in Japan, as well as Cone Mills in North Carolina) – by people who weren’t being paid by the number of pieces they sew. His staff produces about 22 to 30 jeans a day, all by single-needle sewing machines.

There are three possible approaches: Remake, refit, and development. If you bring in a pair of your favorite pants for 3x1 to replicate in their own denim, that’s remake. If you choose one of their pairs, but change the leg width or the rise of the waist, that’s refit. Finally, if you want a pair of jeans like the ones you've always imagined yourself in, that’s development. For a wallet-melting US$1,200, the experienced tailors at 3×1 can make you a pair of jeans that are perfectly custom-fitted to your body. Quite literally the perfect pair of jeans for you.

There is one other jean option – “limited edition” – which refers to jeans that are already assembled and ready to wear. Those styles are available in small quantities – 24 per style at the most – and range from $245 to $445 a piece. If you're not in New York, you can still get them from Shopbop. They ship worldwide. I can't possibly wait to get myself a pair.

Anja Rubik in Balmain

Anja Rubik and Balmain seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly at the moment. The model/editor (she is the founder and editor of 25 Magazine) wore a pair of printed Balmain skinny jeans with a shirt also by the fashion house.

Wearing this much print is definitely a feat to pull off for anyone, but Anja wore it with such grace. Click here to buy these biker denim for US$2,275. They also have a version in a monochrome color for a much cheaper price (US$1,504) here.

Not long after, she pulled a rockstar chic look in a leather jacket with fur back, Balmain harlequin graphic skinny jeans and a fresh pop of color with mint pumps. I also like that she kept everything monochrome from the ankles up, then you see the mint colored heels. You can click here to purchase these jeans at NET-A-PORTER for US$1,622.

This marks the third sighting of her in a pair by the fashion house. She switched back to her multi-printed pair. The denim top added such an effortless feel to her overall look.

Here are some other variations of the iconinc Balmain denim:

White denim stretch with black piping US$1,118 from LUISAVIAROMA

Rag & Bone/JEAN: Raja Midnight

As an avid supporter of printed & colored denim, Rag & Bone/JEAN The Split Skinny Raja Midnight jeans are hands down my favorite pair ever made. They successfully combined the overdone printed denim trend with the everyday black jean, so that you’re getting the best of both worlds – classic, wearable simplicity with a new take on printed denim design. And psst... they are on sale from USD286 down to USD200, click here to purchase them from Shopbop.

The fit was perfect, the overall white, red and black palette were annoyingly good looking and the fact that the long vertical pattern lengthens the leg sum it all up. One way to wear them without looking overkill is of course, with a boyfriend t-shirt and a pair of killer heels. This time I went with Charlotte Olympia Dolly in ivory.

Although it's only my second pair, I believe that I can rely on Rag & Bone/JEAN from time to time. Again, the great fit allows me to skip the annoying dressing room rituals and be able to purchase them online without even worrying a tad bit.

On choosing the right designer denims

Denim is such a fabric that you cannot ignore. It's all about style, comfort and durability. It was with the arrival of denim jeans in the market that the concept of denim emerged into the scene. Previously, the availability of denim was only restricted to jeans. But the scenario has changed over the years. These days, you get denim in various attires. There are denim skirts, denim shirts, denim jackets as well as denim cap widely available everywhere in the market. It is not always easy to make a perfect choice as you will have numerous options to choose from.

Jeans are worn by almost everyone these days. Therefore, celebs and other people from the world of fashion are finding it difficult to look different from the common people without sacrificing comfort. If you are such a person who intends to look different from others, or if you want to set a new trend, then your ideal choice is undoubtedly designer denim. There are many options in designer denim from which you can choose the most suitable one for you. There are many brands in the market that provides designer denims of various types. Some of the renowned brands include Rag&Bone/JEAN, J Brand and Current/Elliott.

Some denims have very unique embellishments, while some have great works of appliqué, and there are some others that are available in fashionable cuts and washes. One thing that you can be completely assured of is the quality of designer denims. Whatever attire you buy, be it a pair of designer jeans, or a designer jacket, there is simply no reason for you to worry about the quality of fabric. The fabric is sure to last for really a long time even if it is handled and washed in a careless manner.

One thing to keep in mind, is that buying designer denims can be really considered as a profitable investment but one has to take care of certain things before splurging money on it. There have been many such instances where people who have ordered online for designer denim have received a fake item. No one can say that it will not be the same with you, as you do not have the option of touching and getting a feel of the fabric. It is also important for you to make sure that you purchase your designer denims from reputable online retailers, such as Shopbop, Barneys New York and Net-a-Porter.
