Asian models at Victoria’s Secret Show 2011

According to bonae l'amour, when you ask most Americans what they know about fashion or a fashion show, 99% of the time Victoria’s Secret will be mentioned. Of course they produce brilliant designers like Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford, but it is the lingerie show, "where fantasy and dreams and pounds of glitter and fake tan come from and with millions across the world watching that the mass public is mostly intrigued about."

For years, the show has been dominated by blonde bombshells. However, this year they have embraced more diversity. There are 5 Black models and give or take 3 Asians (because there are 2 East Asians, 1 Half Arab, 1 Half Asian). Sui He is one of the 12 newcomers who walked the show for the first time. She looks absolutely stunning in these two iridescent outfits. She's the new goddess of the show this year I would say.

On her reaction when she found out she would be walking: “I was so surprised. I never thought that I could do the show, it seemed so hard to me. It’s not my dream, it’s bigger than my dream. The Victoria’s Secret show, for Asians girls, it’s very difficult to get it. But now I’m here!”

On her nerve level: “Before I knew I was going to be in the show, I was nervous — I watched the videos of last year, every year — but now that I’m here, I’m fine, I’m good. I’m just going to enjoy.”

On how fellow Chinese model Liu Wen helped her prepare: “I asked her a lot of questions yesterday about the Victoria’s Secret show, about what to do, because I was so nervous.”

Liu Wen was the first Chinese model to walk a Victoria's Secret runway show, which returns to the runway again this year. With Asia's significance to luxury brands becoming increasingly visible, Asian faces have become way more prominent in the industry. But then not long ago, British Vogue's recent article about the rise of Asian models misidentified Liu Wen as a different Chinese model. Is it really true that it plays into the stereotypes that Asians all look alike? Read more about it here. Speaking of, who's your favorite Asian model?

I'm wondering if anyone is a bit upset too that Rosie isn't walking this year.
